We've
jotted down a few (OK, more than a few) reasons to use the Web for interpretation.
What can the web do best? Here's the executive digest version.
- Reach a much larger audience. Take awareness of your park, it's mission and opportunities, to a new level.
- People fall in love with parks & museums and become core supporters. They need a "meeting" place to learn more, read the latest news and be called to action for support when needed.
- Deal with visitor expectations through expanded interpretation and education.
More visitors will arrive with that understanding.
- Take existing media and make it available online. Consider video
streaming and pod-casting to increase the value of new and current
productions.
- Clarify issues and topics in advance of a park visit or before critical, possibly controversial, issues become the day's news.
- Expand the content of print and exhibits.
Why out-source web production?
Simply, the need for consistent professional quality and to have it happen on time.
And still have it produced as interpretation, not just site design.
Staff issues
- Time
needed to do a quality site is almost always underestimated - Can
it be done by your staff on a firm schedule along with their regular
assigned duties?
- Is there talent availability for all the aspects needed including marketing and sales?
We think that ParkSites is in a unique position to provide the site that will best serve you and your visitors' needs.
So what does go into creating a great interpretive web site? First, Planning.
